Teen Wolf actor Colton Haynes got engaged to his boyfriend, Jeff Leatham, on March 11. The news came only a month after Haynes announced that he was in a relationship with Leatham and a year after he told his fans he is gay. Haynes later showed off his engagement ring to friend Ally Maki.
Leatham is a celebrity florist and currently works as the artist director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris. He’s appeared on the Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart and Queen Latifah shows. He designed the floral decor for Chelsea Clinton’s wedding. You can find him on Instagram right here.
Haynes is best known for his roles on Teen Wolf and Arrow. He also starred in San Andreas with Dwayne Johnson.
Here’s a look at Leatham’s life and the engagement.
1. Cher Taped a Personal Message for the Proposal
The couple got engaged on a beach lit by fireworks at the Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos, Mexico on March 11. But it wasn’t just the scenery that made it special for the couple. Leatham shared the above video, which Cher recorded just for the couple. He also called out Cher’s friend, Paulette Howell, for helping them out.
On his own Instagram page, Haynes revealed that it was Leatham who popped the question because he wrote, “I said yes!”
The actor also wrote, “Thank you @cher for the beautiful ‘I got you babe’ proposal lead in, you sounded incredible as always :) The most special night of my life.”
After the engagement was announced, Haynes’ friend Ally Maki posted a screenshot from a Facetime chat with the actor. In it, he shows off his ring. She wrote in the caption:

2. Haynes Announced Their Relationship Publicly With Valentine’s Day Photos
“It’s not every day that someone comes into your life & makes you want to be a better man,” Haynes wrote in the caption of one post. “I feel so blessed to be by your side @jeffleatham #WhatMoviesAreMadeOf.”
Haynes, who also appeared on Arrow, came out publicly in an Entertainment Weekly interview in May 2016. Haynes told the magazine that he had been out to his friends, family, cast members and his bosses in Hollywood.
“It took me so long to get to this point, but I’m doing so good,” Haynes told EW. “I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and healthier than I’ve ever been, and that’s what I care about.”
He told EW that he was acting at home and on set before he came out publicly. “People who are so judgmental about those who are gay or different don’t realize that acting 24 hours a day is the most exhausting thing in the world,” he told the magazine.
3. Leatham Is the Artistic Director at the Four Seasons Hotel George V
Leatham is a skilled veteran florial designer. According to his website, he has been the artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris since 1997. He started working with flowers at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Leatham’s work in Paris has even been recognized by the French government. In 2014, he received the “Chevalier de L’Order des Arts et Letters,” the highest cultural honor in France.
“It is an immense pleasure and a great honour to be made Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et
des Lettres,” he said in a statement. “It is a decoration that touches me deeply, coming as I publish my third book, Jeff Leatham: Visionary Floral Art and Design, with Rizzoli. It symbolises an enduring passion that continues to inspire me to invent and create new ways to enhance the magnificence of Four Seasons Hotel George V.”
Leatham has also published three books – Flowers by Jeff Leatham, Flowers By Design and Jeff Leatham – Visionary Floral Art And Design.
4. Leatham Has Worked for Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, the Kardashians & the Dalai Llama
Leatham is the go-to florist whenever a celebrity needs to make their home look beautiful. Among the famous names on his website are Tina Turner, Madonna, Kylie Monogue, the Kardashian family, Celine Dion, the Dalai Lama, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey. He even appeared on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. He was also featured on Martha Stewart and The Queen Latifah Show.
Brands like Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Tiffany & Co., Givenchy and Samsung have all hired Leatham to make floral designs for their products.
That’s pretty good for a Utah-born artistic director who didn’t plan on becoming a florist. According to his Four Seasons bio, he started out in California as a male model, but his life changed after a friend asked him to out the floral designer at the Beverley Hills Four Seasons. He learned on the job and, two decades later, he’s a top celebrity florist.
“Whether at the George V or outside the Hotel, everything I do is on a Four Seasons level,” he said in a statement on the Four Seasons site. “I’ve had an amazing career and I owe it all to Four Seasons. I’ll be here until the end.”
In an interview with PopSugar in 2015, Leatham further explained that the woman he began working with was named Paige. He told PopSugar:
I’d worked in fashion before, and done modelling for about three years when I went back to Los Angeles and I said to a friend ‘my god I need to work, it’s been like two weeks.’ He said ‘I know of a flower shop in the Four Seasons hotel, in Paris, I’ll get you an interview there because I know they have a big wedding this weekend.’ So I went there and I interviewed with Paige and that day changed my life. Just walking in there and seeing how they make art with flowers was amazing. She gave me a chance. I started just helping her with bits and bobs here and there, then it turned into a full time gig.
5. He Did the Floral Arrangements for Chelsea Clinton’s Wedding
Leatham has also worked as a floral designer for some important weddings, including Hillary Clinton’s marriage to Marc Mezvinsky. He also designed flowers for the weddings of Tina Turner, Avril Lavigne and Eva Longoria, according to his website.
In an interview with Australia’s Courier Mail, Leatham was asked if he had wedding advice.
“If I can give one piece of advice to a bride, it’s don’t take advice from others,” he told the Courier Mail. “Everyone has different weddings. Have the wedding you want to have.”
In a 2015 Wedding Wonderland interview, Leatham said his three favorite flowers are orchids, roses and calla lilies because they “are more simple and they last longer.” Now, he’ll get to use those flowers in wedding arrangements for himself.
