Pippa Middleton and James Matthews were married on May 20, 2017.

The pair had quite an interesting dating history, stemming back to the very first time they met — in 2006. There has been a lot of preparation heading into the couple’s big day, but the time has come for these two lovebirds to say their “I do’s.”

In December, a source told People Magazine that the couple had a “‘deep desire’ to disappear from the spotlight.” They tried their hardest to keep their wedding details as quiet as possible. The source also told People that the husband and wife-to-be are “looking forward to settling down and ‘having children and leading a quiet life.'”

Here is what you need to know:

1. Their Wedding Was at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, Berkshire

Middleton and Matthews got married at St. Mark’s Church in Englefield, Berkshire, on May 20, 2017. The couple was surrounded by loved ones as they said their “I do’s” on a beautiful Saturday morning.

Middleton’s gown was designed by British designer, Giles Deacon. The dress featured cap sleeves, a high neckline, and a stunning lace overlay sewn by hand. Her brunette hair was done in an elegant updo, with a tiara-style headpiece. Her tulle veil was designed by Stephen Jones. Matthews wore gray pinstripe suit pants, with a charcoal-hued tailcoat, a baby blue vest, and a red necktie.

James Matthews’ brother, Spencer, served as his best man. Middleton was helped by her sister, Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, who appeared to serve as unofficial matron of honor. Kate assisted with the children in the wedding (inclusive of her own children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte), and was on-hand to fix Pippa’s dress as needed. Duchess Kate wore a pink frock designed by Alexander McQueen.

Their wedding reception was held at the Bucklebury home of Pippa Middleton’s parents, Carole and Michael.

2. They Have Known Each Other for Years

The couple met on the Caribbean island of St. Barts back in 2006, but didn’t start dating until several years later. The Caribbean island has been a favorite vacation destination for the Middleton family for many years.

At the time, Matthews did not pursue Middleton because she had just got out of a long-term relationship, according to The Sun. Middleton had been dating Jonathan “JJ” Jardine Paterson and apparently wasn’t looking for another man to sweep her off of her feet.

Matthews and Middleton reconnected six years after their initial meeting. Their relationship was very short-lived and the two went their separate ways after a couple of months.

Middleton didn’t waste any time moving on from Matthews, however. She began dating stockbroker Nico Jackson a few months later. The pair first stepped out together in early 2013 and made several appearances together over the course of their 3-year romance. The two broke up in October 2015, not long after Jackson moved to Geneva. The long distance thing became somewhat of an issue and ultimately caused their split.

Middleton rekindled her flame with Matthews after breaking up with Jackson. Their “romance take 2” has been an absolute whirlwind ever since.

3. They Moved in Together After 2 Months

Jaws just about dropped when it was first reported that Middleton had moved in with Matthews after two months of dating. While that may seem fast, the two had known each other for a decade and had become friends over the years.

“It’s all moved very quickly. They’ve been friends for a long time, but James has always been keen. Pippa spends most of her time at his house and keeps her car, clothes and toothbrush there. They’ve tested living together and all seems to have gone well. Pippa and her brother James still have their flat in Chelsea, which their parents bought, as a bolthole. But as she was spending so much time at James’s it made sense to keep stuff there,” a source told The Sun in January 2016.

The pair still lives in Matthews’ $21 million home in Chelsea.

4. They Got Engaged in 2016

It seems safe to say that Matthews wasn’t about to let Middleton slip through his fingers again. Less than one year after they got back together, he reached out to Middleton’s father, Michael, for his blessing, according to the Daily Mail.

The couple got engaged while on a trip in Lake District in July 2016. Matthews proposed with an Asscher cut diamond ring from London jeweler Robinson Pelham, according to E! News. The design is classic and has a halo of smaller diamonds surrounding the 3.5-carat center stone.

“He would never have bought something off-the-peg for her, it had to be very special,” a friend told People Magazine. The ring is “close to flawless” and is estimated to cost “more than $250,000.”

Unsurprisingly, the ring style has become a trend in and of itself — not unlike the sapphire and diamond bauble worn by her big sister. Despite Pippa Middleton not being “royalty,” she is very much a public figure and people seem to adore her style.

5. They Are Both Active & Enjoy Competing in Athletic Races Together

It’s no secret that Middleton loves to stay active. Whether she’s playing tennis with her brother, James Middleton, in St. Barts, or she’s participating in a triathlon, Middleton loves getting exercise.

Middleton has competed in the 2015 London to Brighton charity bike ride and the 47-mile Otillo swim-run the same year.

Fortunately, she has met her match in Mr. Matthews. In 2008, he completed in the Marathon Des Sables.

The couple competed in the Birkebeiner ski race in Norway in March. They also both enjoy tennis and have attended Wimbledon as a couple. In fact, the duo made their very first public appearance together at the tennis tournament last year.

“I think James and I have the same spirit. We are both competitive. We have had many adventures together. We have a lot in common and that helps. I don’t think it would work with a couch potato,” she told the Daily Mail in September 2016. “I think we do exhaust most people,” she added, laughing.
