‘Stranger Things 2’: Is There an End Credits Scene?

Stranger Things 3

Netflix Stranger Things 3

Once you get near the end of Stranger Things 2, you might be wondering if you missed something particularly important. With so many people talking about the show’s ending and what it meant, you might wonder if there’s something you missed. Was there an end credits scene on Stranger Things 2?

No, there was not. You didn’t miss anything if you didn’t sit through the credits for Stranger Things 2. That ending that everyone is talking about happened before the credits, when the camera panned away from the Hawkins Snow Ball dance and all those adorable scenes.

The camera panned away and then the scene shifted, showing us the Upside Down world. And at that moment, we saw the Shadow Monster (aka Mind Flayer) poised over the school in the Upside Down.

Here’s that scene again, if you want to watch it:

That’s the scene everyone’s talking about. It shows us that the Upside Down is still very active and the Mind Flayer was not killed, even after part of it was driven out of Will’s mind. It’s still keeping an eye on the kids, possibly drawn by Eleven’s power (she was at the dance at the end.)

If I had to guess, I’d imagine that we might need the rest of the kids (1-10) to help Eleven actually eliminate the Upside Down. But it’s also possible that it’s Eleven’s powers that are feeding the upside down. (Remember all those references to Eleven having an open and festering wound?) She certainly closed the gate to the Upside Down at the end of Season 2, but she didn’t shut down the world completely. And thanks to the ending, we now know that the Mind Flower/Shadow Monster is still hard at work, trying to get back to the “real” world.

Now, there is a “kind of” after credits scene that you might have missed, in the form of an aftershow in the same vein as Talking Dead and other popular shows that discuss theories about the episodes. For Stranger Things, that show is called Beyond Stranger Things and it’s also available on Netflix. So if you finished Stranger Things 2 and you’re a little disappointed that you didn’t see an after credits scene, just hop on over to Beyond Stranger Things to get in that fix.
