Wallach signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Sunday. Wallach spent time with the Rangers' and Angels' Triple-A affiliates in 2025 and slashed .248/.319/.430 with 43 RBI and 33 runs scored across 259 plate appearances. The 34-year-old backstop hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2023, and he'll likely remain a depth piece at Triple-A Las Vegas in 2026.
Wallach cleared waivers Wednesday and was sent outright to Triple-A Salt Lake. The 33-year-old was called up from Triple-A last Friday to provide emergency depth behind the plate, but he was pushed back off the 40-man roster once Logan O'Hoppe returned from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Wallach will now likely finish the season at Triple-A, where he's slashed .256/.311/.464 across 137 games.
The Angels designated Wallach for assignment Monday. Wallach provided catching depth over the weekend while Logan O'Hoppe (concussion) and Travis d'Arnaud (concussion) were sidelined, but with O'Hoppe cleared to return, Wallach is no longer needed. He caught two innings during his brief time with the big club but didn't receive a plate appearance.
