Atlanta released Jimenez on Monday. Jimenez was in camp with Atlanta as a non-roster invitee and struggled in three appearances this spring, allowing two runs with a 1:5 K:BB while recording just three outs. It's not clear whether he exercised an opt-out or if this was the team's doing, but either way, Jimenez is now a free agent.
Atlanta signed Jimenez to a minor-league contract Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Mike Rodriguez reports. Jimenez, 30, was non-tendered by the Athletics back in November after posting a 4.91 ERA and 25:19 K:BB over 25.2 innings during the 2024 season. The righty reliever has struck out nearly a batter per inning in his career but has also walked 54 over 84.2 frames.
The Athletics non-tendered Jimenez on Friday. The 30-year-old Jimenez will hit free agency after spending the last three seasons with the Athletics' organization, where he split time between the majors and Triple-A Las Vegas. In 2024, he posted a 4.13 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 24 innings in Triple-A while registering a 4.91 ERA and 1.56 WHIP over 25.2 frames in the majors. Jimenez should garner interest from teams looking to add right-handed pitching out of the bullpen.
