Ricky Vanasco: Breaking News

The Tigers optioned Vanasco to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. Vanasco has made five appearances for the Tigers this season and has been torched for 12 runs (11 earned) over 6.1 innings. He's clearing off the roster to make space for the return of Ty Madden (forearm), who will start Monday in Tampa Bay.

Vanasco allowed four runs on four hits and two walks across two innings of relief in Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Angels. He struck out one. Making his first appearance since getting recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Vanasco struggled mightily. The 27-year-old righty saw his ERA jump up to 15.63, and he's now been scored upon in each of his five outings for the Tigers so far this season. It's safe to say that Vanasco is off the fantasy radar at the moment, and he may be ticketed for a return trip to the minors in the near future due to his lack of effectiveness at the MLB level.

The Tigers recalled Vanasco from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday. Detroit had optioned Vanasco to Triple-A on May 15, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the Tigers in fewer than the minimum 15 days after the team placed left-hander Brant Hurter (spine) on the injured list in a corresponding move. Expect the Tigers to utilize Vanasco mainly in middle relief during his upcoming stint with the big club, after he had yielded eight runs (seven) on 10 hits and four walks over 4.1 innings across his first four appearances of the season with Detroit.
