Sterlin Thompson: Breaking News

Thompson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics. The left-handed-hitting Thompson will retreat to the bench while the Athletics send southpaw Jeffrey Springs to the hill for the series finale. Thompson started in each of Colorado's last three games and went just 1-for-10 with six strikeouts.

Thompson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs. Thompson will hit the bench for a third straight game, with two of his absences during that span coming against right-handed starting pitchers. Since being promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque on May 22, Thompson has gotten on base at a strong .364 clip, but he's hit for little power (.297 slugging percentage) over 15 games. The Rockies seem to be prioritizing Edouard Julien ahead of Thompson for the final spot in their lineup, so it wouldn't be surprising if Thompson was sent back to Albuquerque in the near future while his playing time continues to slip.

Thompson went 3-for-5 with two RBI on Friday against the Brewers. Thompson has picked things up at the plate across his last four games, with Friday marking the first three-hit game of his career. In that four-game span -- three of which were on the road -- Thompson has gone 6-for-16 with three RBI, three runs scored and three walks. He's also been in the lineup in five of Colorado's last six games between left field and DH and is occupying a strong-side platoon role.
