Tanner Gordon: Breaking News

Gordon is expected to follow opener Sammy Peralta and work as the primary pitcher Tuesday against the Rangers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Gordon worked four innings out of the bullpen Thursday against Pittsburgh, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while fanning five. He'll be asked to operate in a similar role Tuesday after the Rockies emerged victorious in the series opener Monday.

The Rockies recalled Gordon from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Gordon had been optioned Tuesday to make room for Jimmy Herget's (shoulder) return from the bereavement list, but he's now back as Herget goes on the injured list. Though he boasts a 20:4 K:BB over 17 innings, Gordon holds a 6.35 ERA in large part due to serving up five long balls. He'll be available in long relief.

The Rockies optioned Gordon to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The right-hander has been up in the majors for the past month, but he'll return to Triple-A after giving up 12 earned runs with a 20:4 K:BB across 17 big-league innings. Gordon could return to the rotation at Albuquerque, where he had a 2.76 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in three starts to begin the season.
