Kristen Bell and her husband Dax Shepard are known for their down-to-earth relationship and amusing antics. They’ve made movies, commercials, and two babies together. The duo starred in the movie Hit and Run in 2012 and paired up again for a series of commercials for Samsung. In their latest collaboration, Kristin and Dax reveal home video footage from a safari trip they took to Africa a couple of years ago. This is no boring, ordinary vacation souvenir. It’s a full-blown music video set to the 1982 Toto hit “Africa.” According to the YouTube description, “This was our last trip before having kids. Our sole objective was to rage hard and honor Toto properly. Hope you enjoy.”
We get to see Dax scrub-a-dubbing in a fancy bathtub with a beautiful African vista just outside his window. Both Kristen and Dax pretend to sing while gorgeous wildlife roam behind them, including giraffes, rhinos, zebras, lions, and more. Kristen even committed fully to the production by singing with her back turned to a wild gorilla. Funky dance moves including “the running man” are on display. The hilarious husband and wife team made sure to get out the camera during a rainstorm so that they could perform fittingly for the song’s iconic chorus.
The lip syncing doesn’t always match up perfectly, but that’s to be expected. Kristin and Dax weren’t exactly on a professional soundstage shooting their music video, so it’s impressive that they remembered to document themselves to cover enough of Toto’s lyrics. This video definitely feels like a labor of love that their fans will enjoy. Kristen joked that this video parody should be given a Nobel Prize:
