Venezuela and Peru meet Thursday, looking to establish position in what is suddenly, and shockingly, a wide open Group C at the 2015 Copa America.

When the teams were drawn into this group, it seemed clear-cut. Brazil and Colombia, both ranked as top-five teams in the world, would easily advance. Venezuela and Peru, both outside the top 60, would fight for third.

But that hasn’t been the case. Venezuela shocked Colombia in the opener, 1-0, Brazil needed some Neymar magic in injury time to get past Peru, then Colombia got its World Cup revenge on Brazil on Wednesday.

Now, if Venezuela can beat Peru, it will be in fantastic position to advance to the knockout stages for the third tournament in a row. If Peru can squeak out a victory, we will enter the final group matches with every country at three points.
