Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had a busy offseason. He shook off the most crushing turnover of his career. He got a nice new contract. And he found himself a pretty popular girlfriend.

Wilson and singer-songwriter extraordinaire Ciara first grabbed national attention when they showed up together at the White House in April, and their relationship has steadily grown since then.

“She’s a special girl,” Wilson said in an interview with Erin Andrews. “She’s the light of the world.”

So, who exactly is this girl who has the dynamic dual-threat QB so smitten?

Ciara, 29, is a native of Austin, Texas, but with a father in the Army, she lived in Germany, New York, California, Arizona and Nevada. She first entered the national spotlight in 2004 when she released the hit single “Goodies,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Overall, Ciara has five singles that have been top-10 hits, as well as six studio albums, four of which have hit the top-three on the Billboard 200. Her net worth is estimated to be at $17 million.

In her personal life, Ciara has a one-year-old son, Future Zahir Wilburn, with rapper and ex-fiance Future.

As Rolling Stone‘s Stephen Rodrick pointed out, Wilson has taken a liking to the young child:

Wilson lets his faceplate slip only once at camp; it’s when Ciara’s tiny son, Future, shows up with his nanny. Wilson trots to the sideline and takes 10 minutes to roll the kid a ball, play patty-cake and exchange high-fives. It’s a rare unscripted — or seemingly unscripted — moment for Wilson, whose greatest trait as a quarterback is his escapability on the field with defenders and off the field with the media.

Wilson, who was previously married to Ashton Meem, met Ciara through a mutual friend in early 2015 and reportedly told his friends before they met he was going to end up with her.

It appears he was onto something, because these two have quickly morphed into one of the most popular couples in the NFL.
