I’m no doctor, but the words “lacerated kidney” tell me a patient’s prognosis is not good.

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck suffered a lacerated kidney in his most recent game and was given a return-to-the-field timetable of 2-to-6 weeks. Again, not a doctor, but I don’t see how Luck can return in any less than a month, if at all. I don’t know how bad Luck’s kidney is, but lacerated is lacerated. Chargers receiver Keenan Allen lacerated (promise, last use of the word “lacerated”) his kidney in Week 8 and will miss the rest of the season.

More light will be shed on Luck in the near future, but for now the Colts will turn to Matt Hasselbeck as their field general. When thrust into action earlier in the season for two games, the 40-year-old threw for 495 yards and 3 touchdowns without an interception. Indianapolis has the weapons and the schedule really sets up favorably for the Colts. Left to go: at Atlanta, vs. Tampa Bay, at Pittsburgh, at Jacksonville, vs. Houston, at Miami and vs. Tennessee. Those teams have allowed a combined 107 touchdown passes while intercepting just 48.

Hasselbeck might be past his prime just a tad, but he’s no slouch. If he’s available on your league’s waiver wire, you absolutely add him.
