Engagements and weddings are heating up in Formula 1. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc tied the knot with Alexandra on February 28, 2026, while Williams’ Alex Albon announced his engagement to long-time partner Muni ‘Lily’ He back in January.
But it’s only now — with a little help from teammate Carlos Sainz — that the details of Albon’s engagement have come to light.
Albon’s Proposal Took an Unexpected Turn — And the Gym Clothes Stayed in the Closet
The couple has been together since 2019, having first connected through social media.

“I guess we’re officially tied together now,” wrote Thailand-born Albon alongside a beaming photo of the pair, while his long-time partner, originally from China, proudly displayed her left hand, showing off the sparkling engagement ring.
“I was planning to do it earlier,” Albon began, recounting the story on stage in Melbourne ahead of the first race of the season. “You procrastinated,” teammate Carlos Sainz suddenly interjected, laughing.
Albon chuckled along, explaining he was about to head into a two-week training block and definitely didn’t want to propose in gym clothes. But, as often happens in life, things took an unexpected turn.
“It was nighttime and we were looking at some stars … and that was it,” the 29-year-old recalled on Saturday.
When asked if it was a traditional, knee-bent proposal, Albon confirmed: “The full shebang.”
From a casual chat on social media to a starlit proposal in Melbourne, their journey proves that even in the high-speed world of Formula 1, love finds its perfect lap.
The Couple is a Perfect Match
Back in 2021, Muni He told Golfweek about Albon: “He’s a really funny guy. When we first met, I found British humor a bit… peculiar. It took me a while to get him.”
Albon opened up to Golfweek in 2022: “I was just keeping an eye on how she was doing, and she was doing the same with me. One thing led to another, and we met in L.A. — a week after my race in Texas. We played golf together, and that’s how it all began. We understand each other and can read each other well. We both started as rookies in our respective sports and went through tough times together. The highs and lows in an athlete’s life, I think everyone can relate to that,” Albon added.
In an interview with PEOPLE in 2022, Albon described his now-fiancée as one of his greatest sources of support.
“You need a very strong circle around you. I have a very strong circle,” he explained. “Leaning on them, that’s where you get your inner peace, but also your motivation. And of course, there are days when you feel negative and things aren’t going your way, but they’re the ones that keep you in check and boost you up when those moments happen.”
He emphasized that having a solid support network is crucial for handling the pressures of both life and sport.
Now, that unwavering support will be celebrated as the couple prepares to tie the knot, marking the next chapter in their journey together.
