The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is preparing for a bold new chapter in Canada, with Markham officially announced as the host city beginning in 2026. This move secures Ontario’s long motorsport tradition while expanding INDYCAR’s presence in a diverse and fast-growing region.
It also strengthens the series’ commitment to reaching Canadian fans who have long been part of the sport’s international fan base.
Penske Entertainment President and CEO Mark Miles described the announcement as a milestone for both INDYCAR and Ontario.
“We could not be more pleased to see the rich history of NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing continue in Ontario,” Miles said. “Markham is a growing, diverse and dynamic city and will provide a terrific showcase for our exhilarating wheel-to-wheel racing.”
Miles emphasized that keeping the series in Ontario is crucial for both the fans and the long-term growth of the sport. By moving to Markham, INDYCAR hopes to anchor the event in a city that reflects energy, diversity, and opportunity.
Markham Embraces the Spotlight
Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed the announcement with pride, calling it a turning point for the city’s sports culture.
“We are excited to welcome the exhilarating experience of INDYCAR SERIES racing hitting our streets in 2026,” Scarpitti said. “Markham is ready to build on its strong sports legacy and offer a new home where this celebrated summer tradition can thrive.”
Ontario’s Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden, praised the decision, noting both cultural and economic impacts. He explained that sport tourism is a major driver of revenue and that an event like INDYCAR strengthens Ontario’s reputation as a world-class destination.
Lumsden also underlined the importance of continuity, reminding fans that the Indy has been part of Ontario’s events calendar for nearly four decades. The arrival of the series in Markham ensures that tradition will continue while also injecting fresh life into the region’s economy and global profile.
A Legacy Extended and a Homecoming
Jeff Atkinson, president of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, confirmed that the event will not be a one-off but rather part of a multi-year plan to establish Markham as the new home of Ontario’s Indy tradition.
“Green Savoree Toronto is announcing today a multi-year agreement with the City of Markham to be the new home of this Ontario motorsports tradition,” Atkinson said. “The inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham will build on the legacy of this great Ontario event, which started in 1986.”
For Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe, the announcement goes beyond sport; it’s personal.
“Markham was my first home and where my racing dreams took root,” Hinchcliffe said. “It’s extra special to know the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will be there starting with the 2026 season.”
A New Era of INDYCAR Begins in Markham
The Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham is scheduled to debut in August 2026. Organizers promise that the new venue in Markham Centre will combine the excitement of world-class racing with a welcoming community atmosphere.
Fans can expect the same thrilling wheel-to-wheel action that has defined INDYCAR while enjoying a fresh setting designed to grow the event into a must-see summer tradition.
By securing Markham as its new home, INDYCAR is not only preserving a decades-long Canadian legacy but also setting the stage for a new era of racing that blends history, culture, and high-octane entertainment.
