Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs fell short in his first career trip to the Super Bowl, but could have another chance with a top contender next year.

Diggs remains a free agent after being cut loose by the New England Patriots in the weeks after the Super Bowl. While he faces a major hurdle with a criminal trial set for next week, one insider believes he will find his way to the Los Angeles Rams before the season starts.

Stefon Diggs Could Help Rams Return to Super Bowl

CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan broke down the best landing spots for the NFL’s top remaining free agents, predicting the Rams will sign Diggs. Sullivan noted that the Rams are looking for a third wide receiver to pair with their top two.

“The Rams had been hunting for a wide receiver to add alongside Puka Nacua and Davante Adams all offseason,” Sullivan wrote. “So far, they haven’t come away with one, opting to take Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall instead of addressing that need.”

Sullivan pointed out that Diggs had a bounce-back season with the Patriots, showing that he had gotten past the knee injury that cut short his 2024 season with the Houston Texans.

“Diggs is coming off a strong 2025 campaign with the Patriots, topping 1,000 yards while helping the franchise reach Super Bowl LX,” Sullivan wrote. “The veteran’s production slowed down the stretch run, but there is still fuel in his tank, especially if he’s playing a complementary role like he would in Los Angeles.”

The Rams will head into the season as one of the top Super Bowl favorites, with quarterback Matthew Stafford returning. The Rams reached the NFC title game last season, losing in a shootout against division rival Seattle Seahawks.

Stefon Diggs Goes to Trial on Monday

Diggs is set to go to court on Monday for the beginning of his assault trial. He faces charges that he assaulted a former personal chef in a dispute over pay. As Boston 25 News reported, the former Bills receiver worked toward a financial settlement that would have allowed him to avoid trial.

“In earlier court appearances, Diggs’ previous attorneys stated they were working to resolve the dispute with a financial settlement,” the report noted. “That did not happen.”

The report added that Diggs and his legal team were confident about their chances at trial, declaring his innocence.

“Mr. Diggs will be exonerated,” said his attorney, Mitchell Schuster. “We believe he is completely innocent…It’s frustrating for him to have to be here knowing what really happened…He’s a good person, and we’re looking forward to the prosecutors seeing all the facts and evidence that we’ve gathered.”

Diggs had some controversy before his exit from Buffalo, getting into a spat with quarterback Josh Allen during the team’s playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022 and sharing cryptic posts on social media in the following months, hinting that he was not happy with the team. The Bills traded him to the Texans in March 2024.
