The Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns are currently playing in a preseason game at Huntington Bank Field. But the game didn’t start well.
Buffalo started with the ball and moved down the field in the first two minutes, but the action stopped due to a lightning delay. The NFL will stop a game due to lightning if there is a lightning strike within a 10-mile radius near the stadium.
However, the game could possibly start at 2:15 p.m. ET, according to News Channel 5’s Aditi Kinkhabwala, who is covering the Browns during the preseason. If there are zero lightning strikes from 1:45 p.m. until the start of the game. Players can take the field at 2:00 p.m. if there isn’t any lightning after 1:45, but that can change if lightning strikes again.
The estimated time of 2:15 was, in fact, when the game resumed. But a handful of thunderstorms are still moving through the Cleveland area, so there is always a chance of another delay.
Josh Allen Won’t Play Vs. the Browns
If Bills fans tuned in for the first few minutes of the game before the official delay and saw Allen playing quarterback, it wasn’t Josh. Even though Josh Allen played against the Carolina Panthers in the first preseason game, he won’t play against the Browns.
Since the Bills had a joint practice with the Browns on Thursday, many of the starters got plenty of work, and Allen was one of them. Head coach Joe Brady told reporters before the joint practice that he wanted to see how it went before deciding who would play in the game.
“I told the team, I want to see how today’s practice goes. Ideal world, a lot of the 1s would, hey, we get a great day’s practice today, and we kind of go from there and I feel like they got the work they needed,” Brady said, via Bills On SI’s Ralph Ventre.
Kyle Allen got the start vs the Browns. He started the game 1 for 1 for 18 yards before the game went into a delay. It will be interesting to see how long Brady will have Allen play now, especially after the game was delayed for almost an hour.
