Former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs is a dad once again — and his actions shortly after the baby announcement turned some heads on Thursday.
The New England Patriots wide receiver and rapper Cardi B announced earlier this year that they were expecting a baby together, and Cardi B took to Instagram on Thursday to announce his arrival. The rapper did not yet reveal the name of their new baby, who was reportedly born earlier in the week.
Stefon Diggs Takes Controversial Action After Announcement
Diggs was playing against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football at the time Cardi B announced the new baby, and TMZ noted that he had some odd timing for a celebration of a catch.
“Stefon caught a pass from quarterback Drake Maye in the first quarter and his route took him out of bounds … and when he was on the sidelines he tossed the football to a Patriots cheerleader,” the report noted. “Folks online noticed Stefon’s ball toss … and some people think it’s a bad look, given that Cardi had just announced the birth of their son.”
While there was likely no connection between the celebration and the announcement, some fans noted the odd timing of it while sharing replays on social media. Cardi B had just announced the news on Instagram, noting that it has been a time of change in her life.
“My life has always been a combination of different chapters and different seasons,” Cardi wrote. “My last chapter was the beginning of a new season. Starting over is never easy but it’s been so worth it! I brought new music and a new album to the world! A new baby into my world, and one more reason to be the best version of me, one more reason to love me more than anything else or anyone else so I can continue giving my babies the love and life they deserve.”
Stefon Diggs Excited to Have a Boy
While Diggs is already the father of a girl from a previous relationship, he said recently that he’s excited to have a boy on the way. Speaking to People magazine at a red carpet event, Diggs said he hopes his son can follow in his footsteps.
“It’s a boy. That’s enough for me,” he said. “I can’t wait to make him do push-ups and sit-ups and run around.”
Cardi B also shared her aspirations for her newest child, saying in an appearance on the “On Purpose” podcast that she hopes to give them opportunities she never had growing up.
“I want you to be smarter than me,” she added. “I want you to be — not perfect because you cannot make your kids perfect and you don’t want you to put pressure on your kids [to be] perfect — but I want you to be a 100 times better version than me, and I’m gonna [instill] that in you and you’re gonna be mad and you’re gonna be crying, but you’re gonna appreciate that one day because I wish the things that that I put on my kids that somebody put in me when I was younger.’
