Cowboys Get Less Than Ideal Update on Potential Maxx Crosby Trade

DraftKings hasn't named the Dallas Cowboys one of the top two betting favorites to land edge rusher Maxx Crosby in an offseason trade.

The Dallas Cowboys are among the teams who could acquire edge rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s the good news.

But the Cowboys aren’t one of the top two betting favorites to be Crosby’s team next season.

According to DraftKings, the Chicago Bears are the overwhelming favorites to trade for Crosby. The Bears own +200 odds.

The Raiders actually sit second at +350 odds. According to DraftKings, the Cowboys are in the next group with the same odds of acquiring Crosby as several other teams.

“Five teams are clustered at +700: the Rams (Fuck Them Picks, Part Two), Cowboys, Bills, Ravens, and Eagles,” wrote ProFootball Talk’s Mike Florio.

“The Patriots land at +1000, with the Lions and Buccaneers at +1200.”

The Cowboys could use Crosby after trading top edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers last August.

In seven NFL seasons, Crosby has earned five Pro Bowl and two second-team All-Pro nominations. During 2025, he registered 10 sacks, 28 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, six pass defenses and one interception.

Could Cowboys Acquire Maxx Crosby in Offseason NFL Trade?

It’s unfair to cast Tuesday’s trade odds on Crosby from DraftKings as completely bad news for the Cowboys.

But as expected, the edge rusher has a lot of suitors. Thus far, the Cowboys haven’t distinguished themselves as a favorite to acquire Crosby.

In fact, based on the DraftKings odds, the Raiders are more likely not to trade Crosby than for him to play in Dallas next season.

Crosby has averaged nearly 10 sacks per season with 69.5 sacks over seven campaigns. He has eclipsed the 10-sack mark twice — 2022 and 2023.

Crosby is terrific at both rushing the passer and against the run. That makes him an ideal fit for just about every NFL team.

He led the league in tackles for loss during 2022 and 2023. This past season, he reached a new high in tackles for loss.

How Much Could It Cost to Acquire Crosby?

Florio reminded readers Tuesday that PFT reported the Raiders want two first-round picks and a player in return for Crosby. Based on the Parsons trade last summer, it makes sense that would be the asking price.

NFL insider Albert Breer, though, cast doubt on Crosby holding the same trade value as Parsons.

“It’d be difficult to find the haul that the Raiders got for Khalil Mack eight years ago, or what Dallas got for Micah Parsons last year, or what the Dolphins received for Laremy Tunsil in 2019,” Breer wrote. “All of those guys were traded for packages fronted by two first-round picks. All of those guys were also much younger, nearing the ends of their rookie deals.”

Given those factors, the Raiders are probably going to have to drop the price to move Crosby.

A lower price would be good news for the Cowboys. Breer, though, doesn’t see Crosby as the only option for Dallas to improve its defense this offseason.

“My sense is they’ll at least kick the tires on Crosby. Trey Hendrickson is older, but is a year removed from back-to-back 17.5-sack seasons, and wouldn’t cost draft picks,” Breer wrote. “Jaelan Phillips would be another option at edge and who was with new coordinator Christian Parker last year in Philly.

“Corner looms as another need, with Seattle’s Tariq Woolen and New Orleans’s Alontae Taylor at the top of that market.”

Maybe the Cowboys could do more for their defense without spending the draft capital on the second-team All-Pro edge rusher. Cowboys fans will have to wait and see.

NFL free agency starts next week.
