WhatsApp is an online messaging service available on iOS, Windows and Android. It allows you to use your own phone number to call or message people online.
If you’ve changed your phone number, you’ll have to update your number on WhatsApp if you’d also like that number to change.
Using the “Change Number” feature on WhatsApp migrates your account information, groups and settings from your old phone number to your new number and deletes the account associated with your old phone number so no one accidentally uses that number trying to get ahold of you.
This will not delete your chat history. If your contacts have your new phone number saved in their address book, they will experience no issues with the contact chain through WhatsApp.
The instructions vary slightly for different operating systems, but as long as your new number can send and receive texts or calls and your old number was verified through WhatsApp, you shouldn’t experience any issues. The steps remain the same for different models.
Here’s How to Change Your Phone Number:
- 1. Go to Settings
- 2. Select Account
- 3. Select Change My Number
- 4. Enter your old number and then click Change My Number
- 5. Follow the verification steps for your new number. WhatsApp will send you a code via SMS or a phone call. Your WhatsApp account will then be verified with your new number.
Changing your phone number should be a somewhat seamless experience to get you back to messaging and calling through the app quickly.
- WhatsApp is a “freeware” messaging service that doesn’t use your phone plan, instead using the Internet to make voice or video calls, send text messages or other items. Location sharing has been available through the app for awhile, but there was recently a new update that allows real-time location sharing services.
