BMX makes its second appearance in the Olympic games on Wednesday. The sport is one of the few action sports to find a place in the Olympic games, after making its debut in Bejing back in 2008. Considering that you have “sports” like synchronized swimming and table tennis in the Olympic games, BMX doesn’t seem like such a stretch.
It most certainly won’t have the amount of media coverage that’s allotted to track and field or swimming, but it will be interesting to see if BMX can pull some of the X-Games crowd over to the Olympics. Ultimately its popularity in the London games could play a factor to whether or not other action sports have a role in future Olympics.
