Adam Levine made a name for himself as lead singer of the band Maroon 5 and now the band is being honored with the Decade Award at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards. The award is to celebrate the band’s evolution over the past 10 years and its influence on the music industry. In addition to being the recipient of the Decade Award, Maroon 5 is also a nominee in the categories of Choice Music Group and Choice Pop Song.

The band members in Maroon 5 include lead vocalist Adam Levine, keyboardist and guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bassist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, and keyboardist PJ Morton. Let’s get to know each of the band members below.

Jesse Carmichael

Not much has changed @jesseroyal except maybe our terrible personal style.

Rhythm guitarist and keyboardist Jesse Carmichael’s father plays quite a part with the band as he is a photographer, who often takes pictures of the band on tours. He and fellow band-mates Adam Levine and Mickey Madden used to be a part of a band called Kara’s Flowers when they were much younger. Carmichael and Levine ended up attending college together as well.

Mickey Madden

Mickey looks genuinely confused, perhaps it's because he isn't wearing his glasses haha

Mickey Madden is the band’s bassist and he grew up playing in garages with current band members Adam Levine and Jesse Carmichael. Last year, Madden was arrested on cocaine charges in New York, according to Billboard, and he accepted a community service deal for his arrest.

James Valentine

Congrats @adamlevine that's pretty freaking cool. Last picture before it's covered in chewed gum and tourist loogies.

James Valentine is a friend of musician John Mayer’s and he played with several bands before joining Maroon 5. Valentine met Mayer while attending Berklee in Boston and told Premier Guitar that: We hit it off and eventually wrote a bunch of weird instrumentals while at school. There is a tape of them somewhere—I don’t really know what type of music it is other than being out there. A while ago John left me a voicemail playing one of the melodies that he still remembered—it was great! Thankfully our friendship has already created some real music.

Matt Flynn

Happy Birthday Matt Flynn #mattflynn #maroon5 #drummer

After Maroon 5’s first album, original drummer Ryan Dusick had to leave the group and he was replaced by Matt Flynn. Dusick suffered serious wrist and shoulder injuries from all the constant touring. Before joining Maroon 5, Flynn played for some big names, including The B-52’s, Chicago, Gavin DeGraw and Gandhi.

PJ Morton

Morton was actually the first to audition for his spot in the band, so it clearly went well. Recently, Morton released a solo album titled “Gumbo”.

Adam Levine

This is my Israeli uncle Shalom back in the 70s. People say we look alike. I don't see it.

In addition to tonight’s event, lead singer Adam Levine is gearing up for another new season of The Voice as a coach alongside Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus. Levine also is on the move as he just dropped $18 million on a new mansion with his wife and daughter, according to Curbed. The home lies in the community of Holmby Hills and was originally put on the market for $27.5 million.
