A 21-year-old, already married three times, is celebrating his upcoming forth by announcing his engagement to his newest bride-to-be on Facebook. His third wife commented on the announcement. The screencap was shared on Reddit by one of seasoned grooms’ Facebook friends to the subreddit /r/trashy, titled “He’s f**king 21.”
The screencap quickly shot to the top of the bulletin board site with nearly 17,000 “upvotes.” Users unanimously shook their head at the post but many cited it as just a normal, cultural aspect of living in the rural Midwest. In a FiveThirtyEight poll conducted by SurveyMonkey, the states most commonly considered part of the Midwest include Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Some respondents also consider Colorado, Montana, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Wyoming as midwestern.
According to Census Reporter, 50% of people aged 15 years and older in the Midwest are married. However, it’s unclear how many of these are second or third marriages, but Psychology Today reports that second and third marriages are more likely to fail. First marriages have a 50% success rate, writes Time.
In the screencap, the 21-year-old celebrating his fourth marriage announcement is labeled with orange, his bride-to-be is magenta, his mother is blue, and his ex-wife is yellow. Read the exchange below.
