Whether your own an iPhone or an Android device, you probably wish you had better battery life. To extend your battery life throughout the day, you can use battery-boosting solutions like a battery case, or an portable battery/external phone charger. Of course, there’s another option: keeping a car charger in your work vehicle or personal car.

These types of chargers draw power from your car, so they don’t limit the charge you can give your device. That makes them a better option than battery cases or external chargers, which have a limited amount of juice they can give you before they die. Here are five of the best smartphone car chargers you can buy today. We’ll be featuring iPhone car chargers, as well as car chargers that will keep your Android phone fully charged during a long drive. Need to keep your whole family happy on a long road trip? This multi-port car charger will let you charge five devices at once. Mom and Dad can keep their phones charged while running battery-draining. Meanwhile, the kids in the backseat can get enough power to keep their music and games going for hours.

A nice feature here is Anker’s PowerIQ Technology. Essentially, this charger is smart enough to know what device you’ve plugged into it, and adjust its charging parameters appropriately to give you the fastest, safest charge. Anker brags that one in three chargers sold on Amazon is an Anker product, which is a pretty impressive fact. Factor in their high customer review scores, and this is definitely a car charger you can feel secure about buying online.

4. Moshi Car Charger Duo With Lightning Cable

car charger

(Moshi)

Moshi makes a number of smartphone accessories, including this car charger duo. If you own an iOS device, you know you can never have too many Lightning cables. The folks at Moshi sent us a sample of this car charger with Lightning cable, and we’ve been able to go hands-on with the product over the past few weeks. This charger worked as expected during our hands-on time, with charging being neither surprisingly fast or annoyingly slow compared to home charging with official Apple cables.

The perk of having an extra Lightning cable is twofold. First, you don’t have to remember to take your cable out of the car and into your house. Additionally, this cable is longer than an Apple cable, which makes it more convenient to use. One nice feature here is the advanced power management circuitry, which protects your device from overcharging. My favorite little thoughtful detail is the option to make the cable into a closed loop for storage, which protects the ends from accidental damage when stored in a messy car. If you want a car charger without paying for the additional Lightning cable, try Moshi’s Revolt Duo car charger.

Price: $44.95

Pros:
  • Circuit design with over-current and over-charge protection
  • Lightning cable connects to itself, protecting the ends from damage when not in use
  • Cable is long enough to reach people in the back seat
  • Charge two devices at once

Cons:
  • Limited color options
  • Somewhat more expensive than other chargers on this list
  • Large families/work carpool buddies may want more USB ports
  • Curled “phone-style cord” can be hard to extend without feeling like you’re pulling too hard on the charger

5. Incase Mini Car Charger with Integrated Lightning Connector

(Incase)

Incase makes this cool car charger for iPhone 6 users, though of course it also works for other iOS devices as well. The team at Incase sent us a sample of this car charger with integrated Lightning cable, and we’ve been able to go hands-on with the product over several weeks.

It performed as expected. I’ve had lots of car chargers over the years, and more than a few of them have charged really slowly. That was not the case here. If you like the idea of having a charger with a built-in Lightning connector, this is a solid choice. Do note that this only works with iOS devices with a Lightning connector. Devices with the older style of connector will not work.

Price: $24.95
