From 1961 to 1966, Mary Tyler Moore played Laura Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show. Moore was cast by Carl Reiner (the show was based on his own life), and the series was produced by Danny Thomas's production company. Moore was just 24-years-old when she started on the series, and was 11 years younger than Dick Van Dyke, who played her husband. In an interview with Emmy TV Legends, Moore admitted that she was especially in love with the episode titled, "My Blonde Haired Brunette", in which Laura bleaches her hair blonde while Rob is at work because she worries he's no longer attracted to her. The Dick Van Dyke show earned Moore two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series-- one in 1964 and the other in 1966. In an interview with ET in January 2016, Dick Van Dyke revealed that he initially thought Moore was too young to play his wife. "She had this strange mid-Atlantic accent... and I said, well, can she do comedy? Well, it wasn't, well, not two episodes before her timing and sense of humor came... What a pleasure." Van Dyke went on to laugh about the "teenage crush" the two had on one another. Click through our gallery to check out pictures of on-screen couple. (Getty)
