We did not have to wait long to hear from Steve Spurrier. While Spurrier resigned as South Carolina head coach earlier this week, he pointed out that he would still be active.
Spurrier appeared on ESPN’s College Gameday live from Michigan during the first hour of the show. Gameday aired a tribute video narrated by Tom Rinaldi before Spurrier joined the set. It highlighted some of his signature coaching moments as well as his signature quotes throughout his career.

He joined Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso for about a 10 minute discussion. It touched on Spurrier’s decision to step down in the middle of the season to the current college football rules. While some speculated Spurrier would be a regular analyst on the show, there was no announcement made.
He continued to join the crew throughout the show for his analysis. Spurrier was officially the celebrity guest picker on Gameday. He offered his trademark humor in each of his picks.
