Ohio State got bad news in the fourth quarter when quarterback Julian Sayin left the game injured.

Sayin ran to the locker room holding his arm after taking a hard hit while trying to throw a pass. He was struck from his right side, causing him to fumble the ball. However, Ohio State recovered.

Sayin returned from the locker room and headed to the sideline to watch the rest of the game, wearing an arm sling.

Sayin completed 15 of 29 passes for 235 yards and two scores, while throwing two interceptions, before he was injured.

Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Day stated after the game that Sayin will “miss several weeks.”

The Play Sayin Suffered His Injury On

Ohio State lost Sayin with about eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes drove downfield and got two nice runs from running back Isaiah West, setting up at the Indiana 38-yard line. But the Buckeyes decided to throw on first down at the Indiana 38-yard line, and that is when Sayin got injured.

Indiana defensive lineman Mario Landino beat Ohio State’s right tackle, Phillip Daniels, off the edge and hit Sayin as he looked to throw to his left. Sayin didn’t see Landino coming and fumbled the ball, which bounced to Ohio State’s 44-yard line. But the Buckeyes did recover it.

Following Sayin’s injury, Ohio State ran five more plays before ultimately punting the ball back to Indiana.

Ohio State Will Play Oregon in Three Weeks

Ohio State will head into its bye week and then return on Halloween weekend to face USC on the road. The Buckeyes will then play Oregon on Nov. 7, and neither school could have its starting quarterback available.

Oregon is still without its starting quarterback, Dante Moore, who suffered a concussion against USC in Week 4. Moore missed Oregon’s Week 6 loss to UCLA, and the team has already ruled him out for the Week 7 game against Nebraska.

The matchup between Ohio State and Oregon was expected to showcase a showdown between Sayin and Moore, both of whom could be first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. However, it now looks like it may turn into a backup quarterback competition.
