The Athletics officially placed SS Jacob Wilson on the 10-day injured list with a shoulder injury. Wilson is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season, according to reports.

Another case of unfortunate news came out about Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson. The 24-year-old hasn’t played in a game since the A’s win over the Texas Rangers on Aug. 16.

Wilson has been dealing with left shoulder soreness, and the Athletics placed the former All-Star shortstop on the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Houston Astros, the team announced.

It’s another unfortunate injury setback for a diminishing Athletics team. Manager Mark Kotsay said that Wilson is “likely out for the rest of the 2026 season due to his left shoulder injury,” MLB.com’s Jackson Stone announced.

A Look Back at Jacob Wilson’s Injury-Plagued 2026 Season

In 2025, Jacob Wilson broke out to become one of the best shortstops in baseball during his rookie season. While hitting .311/.355/.444 with 13 home runs, 63 RBI, and five stolen bases, Wilson earned his first All-Star nod.

2026 hasn’t been quite as successful for the A’s shortstop. Wilson has appeared in just 80 games for the A’s this season.

If he’s unable to return this season, Wilson will miss more than half of the 2026 season.

Wilson missed significant time in May and June due to a left shoulder subluxation that resulted in an injure list stint. Fast forward to now, soreness to the same shoulder has led to him likely missing the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old also missed time due to right thumb inflammation.

On the season, Jacob Wilson’s injuries has took the best of his production. Through 80 games, he’s batted .266/.298/.388 with seven home runs, 37 RBI, and four stolen bases.

While battling injuries, Wilson was still able to display impressive defense. He broke the MLB record for consecutive games by a shortstop without recording an error. On Aug. 9, Wilson played his 111th straight game without an error.

He passed Mike Bordick’s record that was set in 2002 while he was playing for the Baltimore Orioles.

A’s Continue to Battle Crucial Injuries in 2026

Unfortunately, Jacob Wilson hasn’t been the only key Athletics player that has missed a significant portion of 2026.

Some of the most-known A’s players are on the mend with season-ending setbacks. Tyler Soderstrom was transferred from the 10-day to 60-day injured list and will miss the remainder of the season while undergoing left hip impingement surgery.

Shea Langeliers underwent season-ending surgery to address a torn right meniscus, Nick Kurtz was transferred to the 60-day injured and will miss the remainder of 2026 with a right thumb strain, and Brent Rooker has been out since early June after getting left knee surgery.

All of these factors have played into the A’s sitting at the bottom of the American League with a 49-79 record, 14 games out from a spot in the postseason.
