They will look to avoid getting swept after losing each of the first two games.

Most recently, the Cardinals lost by a score of 12-3 on Saturday.

King had been in the middle of his first season with the Marlins.

He went 6-2 with a 3.99 ERA in 50 games.

It will be interesting to see if he gets claimed by another MLB team.

There is also the chance that he ends up back with the Marlins (in Triple-A).

Here’s what people were saying about the news:

Kevin Barral: “#Marlins free agent signings this offseason Pete Fairbanks (still with the team) John King (DFA) Chris Paddack (DFA) Austin Slater (DFA) Christopher Morel (DFA)”

@FishOnFirst: “Updated Marlins 40-man roster snapshot. John King gets DFA’d to make room for Jack Ralston. King was AMAZING for the Marlins until his ankle injury last month. Brutal slump since then (10.24 ERA and 8.67 FIP with only 3 K in 9.2 IP).”

Will Manso: “Talk about a tale of two halves for John King with the Marlins.”

@jeremytache: “John is a very kind guy, and he was gigantic during the Marlins 1st half. Wishing him nothing but the best.”
