The Bills are preparing for their wild-card matchup against the Jaguars in Jacksonville, but Buffalo received some disappointing news on Saturday.

Bills Rule Out One of Their Key Players

Wide receiver Joshua Palmer has been ruled out for Sunday, as he has been struggling with an ankle injury all week.

Palmer participated in 12 games during the regular season, notching 22 receptions for a total of 303 yards. This offseason, the Bills signed him to a three-year, $36 million contract, but he has yet to live up to the expectations that came with it.

During the regular season, Palmer suffered knee and ankle injuries that forced him to miss five games, significantly impacting his performance and projections.

Palmer was expected to be one of the top veteran wide receivers for Josh Allen this season. However, with Palmer missing time, it never seemed like he and Allen could establish the chemistry they needed to connect effectively on the field.

Of course, the Bills signed Palmer for the regular season, but most importantly, they wanted him out there during the playoffs. Buffalo has been so close to reaching the Super Bowl the last five seasons, and a player like Palmer could be the reason that finally puts the Bills over the top.

Buffalo has to Bring its Best Performance on Sunday

The Bills need to rely on a handful of other players with Palmer down, and hopefully, Allen can break out a few big plays with his legs.

Despite the Jaguars being one of the NFL’s weaker teams last season, the Bills need to approach this matchup with caution. Jacksonville has shown throughout the season that it has the potential to contend for the Super Bowl. Just because Buffalo and Allen have had significantly more playoff experience over the past five years doesn’t mean Jacksonville can’t come out on top in this game.

The Bills are in a tricky situation this postseason because there is no Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson or Joe Burrow standing in the way. Arguably, Mahomes, Jackson, Burrow, and Allen are the top four quarterbacks in the AFC, and the only one standing is Allen.

The Bills face a challenging path ahead after falling short in the AFC East and watching the Patriots win the division crown for the first time since 2019, which landed Buffalo as the No. 6 seed. This means it could hit the road for every playoff game if the Bills aim to reach the Super Bowl.

Even though the Bills boast the best quarterback in the AFC playoffs, going on the road for potentially three consecutive games is no small feat. If Buffalo wants to reach the Super Bowl, it may have to face the Broncos in Denver, who hold the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

Playing in Denver, with its passionate fan base and high altitude, presents a real challenge. The Bills must first focus on defeating the Jaguars before turning their attention to upcoming opponents. However, this is definitely something fans should keep in mind if Buffalo secures a victory on Sunday.
