Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are days away from the NFL divisional round of the playoffs, after their victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on the road on Sunday, January 11, with a 27-24 final score. But, that doesn’t mean Allen is getting the respect that he deserves.
Allen, of course, is the reigning MVP. “I know this is an individual award and it says ‘most valuable player’ on it, but I think it’s derived from team success,” Allen said when he accepted the MVP award last season, “and I love my team.”
So, while it’s great that Allen finally got some much-deserved MVP recognition last season and that the Buffalo Bills are advancing in the playoffs, Allen is getting disrespected ahead of the matchup, which is days away.
The NFL has announced that the Buffalo Bills will take on the Denver Broncos at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 17, at Empower Field at Mile High. The game will air on CBS and Paramount+. The other game that day, the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, will take place at 8 p.m. ET.

So, how is Allen getting disrespected? It’s in this season’s MVP odds. The oddsmakers at DraftKings Sports don’t have Allen anywhere near the top in the rankings as of Tuesday, January 13.
According to the latest numbers and report, Matthew Stafford is No. 1 ahead of the NFL playoff divisional round, followed by Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, Caleb Williams and finally Josh Allen. It’s pretty wild to see Lawrence, a quarterback Allen and the Bills just beat, two spots above Allen in the ranking.
Now, if Allen leads the Buffalo Bills to their first championship victory in franchise history, this might change, btu as of right now, he’s simply getting overlooked.

After the Buffalo Bills’ win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Lawrence opened up about his disappointment but remained hopeful.
“We’re going to have to have a great offseason and get back into it in a few months and prepare the right way, and it’s going to be a new team and a new journey that we’ve got to go on, and we’ve got to earn it every week,” Lawrence told reporters in a postgame presser. “There’s no guaranteed success, but I do feel like this is sustainable, the things that we’re doing.”
He added, “You have to earn it every year. It’s not just going to happen. I guess that’s the best way to put it.”
Over on the Bills’ side, head coach Sean McDermott talked about the adversity that the Bills have faced all season. “It builds character,” he said of the team’s adversities. “You go into every season and you’re hoping and praying that there’s no adversity.”
McDermott added, “But we’ve all been around this long enough to know that there’s going to be adversity, it’s just a matter of what form it comes in and how big it is. And we’ve really been dealing with it quite a bit this year.”
