The Buffalo Bills have had a busy start to the 2026 NFL offseason. After coming up short of their Super Bowl goals again in 2025, Brandon Beane and the front office are trying to re-tool for another attempt next season.
Already, the Bills have made a few sizable moves. Their biggest was the trade to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears. He will give star quarterback Josh Allen the top wide receiver target he has been needing for a few years.
Other moves this offseason for Buffalo include signing veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, quarterback Kyle Allen, and cornerback Dee Alford.
Should the Bills decide that they need to further reinforce their defense, there is an intriguing star option still available. That option is none other than linebacker Bobby Wagner.
Buffalo Bills Could Be Perfect Fit for Bobby Wagner
Wagner is a free agent after putting together another big-time season with the Washington Commanders in 2025. Even at 35 years old, he remains one of the NFL’s best inside linebackers.
Throughout the course of the 2025 season, Wagner played in 17 games. He racked up 162 total tackles to go along with 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, and four defended passes.
Matt Johnson of SportsNaut has predicted that Wagner will end up signing with Buffalo. He is no source of reporting, but the idea would make a lot of sense.
Here is what Johnson had to say about the potential fit.
“A 10-time Pro Bowl selection, linebacker Bobby Wagner is still just two seasons removed from earning second-team All-Pro honors. He also netted 8 tackles for loss and 79 solo tackles this past season, though he has proven to be a liability in coverage,” Johnson wrote.
“There could be an opportunity here for Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Buffalo could take advantage of Wagner’s instincts as a run defender, as he has proven to remain one of the best off-ball linebackers in football against the run. Plus, he could be an excellent mentor to any young linebackers the team drafts this year.”
Wagner Will Become a Highly Popular Free Agency Target Soon
With the first rush of free agency officially over, Wagner is one of the best players available. Plenty of teams are going to come calling.
Among those teams could be the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks. Wagner is going to have a large market.
For the Bills to bring him onboard, they would need to get aggressive. They likely wouldn’t have to give up more than a one-year deal, which could make the move even more intriguing for Buffalo.
Whether or not Beane will actually pursue Wagner remains to be seen. The move would make a lot of sense and the signing of Wagner would certainly help the Bills as they look to make a Super Bowl run in 2026.
