The Buffalo Bills are gearing up to face off against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round on Saturday. If the Bills win, they could face the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game.

New England is set to face off against the Houston Texans this Sunday. The Patriots are favored to beat the Texans, and former New England quarterback Brian Hoyer hopes to see the Patriots face the Bills if they reach the title game.

Hoyer Wants Patriots to Rip Bills’ Hearts Out In the AFC Title Game

The former quarterback is eager to see the Bills for a specific reason, and it’s not just because Buffalo likely has the weakest roster left in the playoffs. Hoyer wants to see the Bills so the Patriots can rip their hearts out.

“The reason I’m rooting for the Bills is one, I do love Josh Allen, but two: how great would it be to have them come here to the AFC Championship Game and break their hearts, and make them feel like their window was there, you had it, and now it has come and gone?” Hoyer said on Tuesday during “WEEI Afternoons”.

The Bills and the Patriots both compete in the AFC East, fostering one of the NFL’s most intense rivalries. However, New England has dominated the division for much of this century, especially during the two decades that Tom Brady was at the helm as the Patriots quarterback.

Everything changed for Buffalo in 2018 when the Bills drafted quarterback Josh Allen. From 2020 to 2024, the Bills dominated the AFC East, winning the division every year, but they never reached the Super Bowl.

New England thrived this season, clinching the AFC East title under Mike Vrabel’s leadership in his first year as head coach. Quarterback Drake Maye shone in his second season, contributing significantly to the Patriots’ success.

New England is on Top Of the AFC East For First Time Since 2019

It now feels like New England has reclaimed the division. If the Bills lose to the Patriots in the AFC title game, it would be pretty disappointing, especially since Buffalo was expected to finally take charge and put an end to New England’s domination of the AFC East, which has lasted since 2000.

The Bills and Patriots faced off twice this season, splitting the series. In Week 5, New England traveled to Buffalo and secured a victory, while the Bills later went on the road to take on the Patriots, where they came away with a win.

Although it’s enjoyable to discuss a game between the two teams, both need to manage their business in the divisional round.

The Bills are going to need all the support they can muster when they face the Broncos, especially since they have to travel. Denver boasts one of the toughest home-field advantages in the NFL, and if the Broncos start strong, it could turn into a challenging game for Buffalo.
