Todd Bowles has been called out to let go of defensive play calling duties.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter a pivotal offseason after missing the playoffs, and running back Rachaad White has made his thoughts known on two key coaching topics.

White, a pending free agent, talked about head coach Todd Bowles on the “Loose Cannons” podcast and addressed who the Buccaneers should hire as the next offensive coordinator. A former third-round draft pick from Arizona State, White has only played for Bowles as the head coach, but has played under a different offensive coordinator every season of his career.

“I do think he should let somebody else call defense, and he’ll just be a head coach,” White said about Bowles on the podcast. “I do feel like he’d probably be better off by doing that so he can focus on really just the head coach job and just trust that he’s got the right defensive staff.”

Bowles served as the defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers from 2019 to 2021 before he took over as head coach. As for the offensive coordinator, White believes the Buccaneers should go for former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.

Known to be an innovative offensive mind, McDaniel could boost the Buccaneers offense, but he has been a head coach for a bit, too. That said, if the Buccaneers want to keep White, paying attention to what he’s looking for in an offensive coordinator couldn’t hurt.

White had 572 yards rushing and four touchdowns in 2025 for the Buccaneers.

Rachaad White Familiar Alternative For OC

White admitted that McDaniel is a long shot because of his head coaching experience, so White floated a familiar alternative for offensive coordinator during the podcast — Zac Robinson.

The offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, Robinson recently interviewed with the Buccaneers.   He played quarterback in the league and has been in coaching since 2019.

“I ain’t think Robinson was bad, man. I thought he got Bijan [Robinson] the ball in the right spots,” White said.

Falcons running back Bijan Robinson notably split time with fellow back Tyler Allgeier in 2025, and that’s similar to White splitting time with fellow back Bucky Irving. White also noted the difference in quarterbacks between the Falcons and Buccaneers.

“I think Baker [Mayfield] is obviously better than them,” White said.

In Atlanta, Robinson worked with Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins when Penix was injured. Mayfield has put up stronger numbers and both, and he could thrive under Robinson as White sees it.

Rachaad White is Open to Todd Monken as OC

White said he could also see Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as the Buccaneers’ next offensive coordinator.

“I’m not knocking [Todd] Monken; he’d probably be my second choice. I really like Monken because I hear he got that dawg in him, that fire in him,” White said.

Monken has coached with the Buccaneers before, and he is set to interview for the position this week. Other candidates who interviewed for offensive coordinator include New York Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka, former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan, Arizona Cardinals quarterback coach Israel Woolfork, and Detroit Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw.
