San Jose Sharks fans have come to expect Macklin Celebrini to get on the stats sheet on a nightly basis.

The superstar center has tallied 83 points in 58 games so far this season, ranking fifth in the NHL and putting himself in the Hart Trophy discussion. But the second-year phenom is also helping the Sharks, as a whole, lead the league in another set of stats: Points by players who are still teenagers.

Sharks’ Stats by Teens in 2026

Sixteen teenagers made opening-night rosters in the NHL this season. That’s the most since 2017-18, when 17 teens debuted on opening night, according to NHL.com. (That was the season Olympic gold medalists Clayton Keller, Charlie McAvoy, and Kyle Connor all entered the league.)

Not surprisingly, Celebrini’s 83 points (29 goals, 54 assists) are head and shoulders over other teens this season. New York Islanders rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer is second on the list with 44 points (20 goals, 24 assists).

But Celebrini isn’t the only young gun on Team Teal. Sharks teammate and 2025 NHL Draft selection Michael Misa, who is 18 years old, has added 12 points (four goals, eight assists). Sharks defenseman Sam Dickinson, who is also 19, adds 10 points (one goal, nine assists).

In total, the Sharks’ teenage contingent has posted a whopping 105 points in the 2025-26 season as of March 1. No other team comes close.

Where Celebrini Ranks Among Other Sharks

Of course, Mackline Celebrini isn’t the first skater to play for the Sharks before he turns 20. Franchise points leader Patrick Marleau got his start at age 18, and Tomas Hertl had his infamous four-goal game against the New York Rangers when he was 19 years old.

But even a scoring machine like Marleau posted just 77 points (34 goals, 43 assists) before he turned 20. Hertl, whose rookie season was cut short by a knee injury, only played 37 games and posted 25 points as a teenager.

Celebrini, on the other hand, doesn’t turn 20 until June and has already amassed 146 points (54 goals, 92 assists) in 128 NHL games.

Where Celebrini Ranks in NHL History

Sidney Crosby still holds the record for most NHL points by a teenager at 222, just two points more than Wayne Gretzky. Can Celebrini top Sid the Kid before he enters his 20s?

He has already joined Crosby and Gretzky in elite company by notching 30 points in the first 20 games of the season as a teen. He also tied Crosby’s record for 55 points before Christmas. Still, eclipsing 222 points is a big feat.

“Celebrini trails only Connor McDavid (75) and Nathan MacKinnon (74) in scoring, and is on pace for 127 points over a full 82 games,” SportsNet wrote back in January. “Gretzky finished his 19-year-old season with 137 points, and Crosby posted 120.”

That would put Celebrini’s points total before age 20 at 273, well above the record Crosby set roughly two decades ago.

“He’s special,” Sharks teammate Vincent Desharnais, who briefly played with Crosby. told the CBC of Celebrini. “He always wants to get better every day. I’m sure next skate, he’s going to be one of the first guys on the ice to work on something else. So, it’s impressive to see, and it kind of inspires everyone.”
