Dropped by New England
Jackson (knee) was waived by the Patriots on Monday. Jackson originally signed with the Patriots in June of 2024 but was sidelined for all of last year due to a knee injury. He was dropped without an injury designation Monday, suggesting he's now moved past his knee issue. The Rutgers product has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game after posting 22 catches for 361 yards and one touchdown across 13 games during his final collegiate season in 2023.
Staying in New England
Jackson (knee) agreed to a contract with the Patriots on Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. After going undrafted out of Rutgers last spring, Jackson initially signed with the Falcons before being cut in June and then catching on with New England. Though the wideout impressed New England's coaching staff during training camp, his hopes of making the 53-man roster ended after he suffered a non-contact knee injury during the Patriots' second preseason game. Jackson spent the entire season on injured reserve, but the 25-year-old will be brought back in the fold for 2025 and could get a chance to compete for a roster spot once again this spring and summer.
Going to IR
New England placed Jackson (knee) on its injured reserve list Tuesday. He'll now have to sit out for the entire 2024 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the Patriots. In his absence, David Wallis could see an increase in reps at practice.
X-rays negative, MRI next
New England head coach Jerod Mayo said X-rays on Jackson (knee) came back negative, but he'll get an MRI on Friday, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports. Jackson suffered a non-contact knee injury in New England's Thursday preseason game against Philadelphia. The X-rays coming back negative is a positive for the wide receiver, but the MRI results should provide more insight on the nature and severity of the issue.
Ruled out Thursday
Jackson (leg) was ruled out for the rest of the Patriots' preseason game against the Eagles on Thursday, Mike Kadlick of CLNSMedia.com reports. Jackson suffered what appeared to be a non-contact injury, per Kadlick. Jackson did not catch a pass before exiting. The wide receiver went undrafted in April and is competing for a depth role with New England.
Inks deal with New England
The Patriots signed Jackson on Thursday. The Rutgers product has found a home in New England after he was dropped by the Falcons just two days ago. Jackson went undrafted this past April and will now compete for a depth role in the Patriots' wide receiver room as the offseason progresses.
Gets cut loose
Jackson was waived by the Falcons on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jackson linked up with the Falcons earlier in the spring as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers. He'll now have to find a new opportunity if he plans to suit up for an NFL team in 2024.
