Many know Jinger Duggar from the show 19 Kids And Counting. Now, the family has a spin-off show, which focuses on a couple of the sisters and the show is titled Counting On. On TLC, we’ve gotten to see the courtship and proposal between Duggar and her then-boyfriend-turned-fiance Jeremy Vuolo. Get to know Vuolo and his road to becoming Duggar’s husband.
1. After Being Arrested, Vuolo Said He Turned His Life Around
In Touch reported that Vuolo has a criminal record and was arrested in January 2008. The charge was “harassing a police officer” and it seemed to be after a night of partying as Vuolo “was acting belligerent and shouting obscenities.”
The experience appeared to be something that Vuolo did not want to relive, as he explained:
I was part of the college party scene and was living foolishly. I’m not perfect, but I sought out accountability and I now see great victory in my life.
Starcasm reported that Vuolo pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment in February of 2008, which resulted in a $250 fine and a “one-year conditional discharge.”
2. Duggar and Vuolo Became Engaged After a One-Month Courtship
Jinger Duggar and Vuolo met in 2015, but they did not begin a courtship until late June 2016. Just one month later, Vuolo proposed to Duggar in New York City and she accepted. The proposal aired on TLC and the family members were in on the surprise. Duggar’s sister Jessa told the cameras:
The goal of this trip is for Jinger to meet all of Jeremy’s relatives who live up in the Northeast. The secret goal is that Jeremy is going to propose to her!
Because of the short courtship, pregnancy rumors were swirling at first, but the couple maintains they respected the rules of courtship. These rules included side hugs, no kissing, and no sex before marriage.
3. Jeremy Vuolo Is an Ordained Pastor
For most of Vuolo’s life, he was home-schooled. He then attended high school for a couple years, which he admits opened him up to partying and “sin.” He continued this life style into college and eventually realized he wanted to change. Vuolo went on to become an ordained pastor and uses the sins of his past in some of his testimonies, according to Starcasm.
4. Vuolo Was a Major League Soccer Player
Jeremy Vuolo has said that playing soccer was a dream of his since he was a child. He grew up to play for Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League. He also played soccer at Hartwick College and Syracuse University. In 2012, he signed with Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls and later went on to play with NASL club San Antonio Scorpions.
5. The Couple’s Wedding Was Officiate By Vuolo’s Father
Duggar and Vuolo married on November 5, 2016 and Vuolo’s father Chuck officiated the ceremony. Duggar’s sister Jessa served as Matron of Honor and Vuolo’s brother Charles was the best man, according to People. Vuolo gushed about the big day, saying:
It was a dream come true. We’ve been counting down the hours until this day.
And, Duggar’s mother Michelle talked about how her daughter and Vuolo compliment one another, explaining:
They really balance each other out. Jeremy is a strong leader, and Jinger is such a gentle people person and a great follower.
The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Ozarks at John Brown University in Siloam Springs.
