Sent to minors

The Cubs optioned Hollowell to Triple-A Iowa on Friday. The right-hander was called up from Iowa and will return there after he allowed two runs over 1.2 innings Thursday against the Reds. Ethan Roberts (finger) was reinstated off the injured list to take Hollowell's spot in Chicago's bullpen.

The Cubs recalled Hollowell from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. Hollowell has permitted only two runs with a 15:6 K:BB over his first eight innings at Iowa. He'll give manager Craig Counsell a fresh bullpen arm.

Back from IL

Hollowell (undisclosed) was activated from the 7-day injured list Saturday. Hollowell missed nearly three weeks after picking up an unspecified injury. He didn't show any signs of rust in his return to the bump Saturday, striking out a pair in a scoreless inning of relief work at Triple-A Iowa.
