Jesús Luzardo: Everything you need to know

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Red Sox, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings. Luzardo turned in one of his sharper outings of the season, throwing 59 of 92 pitches for strikes while matching former teammate Ranger Suarez in a pitchers' duel featuring five-plus scoreless innings from both sides. Although he recorded only four strikeouts Thursday, the left-hander still owns an impressive 30 percent strikeout rate through nine starts this season. Luzardo didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Rockies, surrendering six runs on six hits and three walks over three-plus innings. He struck out six. The volatile southpaw got tagged for one run in the first inning but seemed to steady the ship until the fourth, when the first seven Colorado batters reached base before Luzardo mercifully got the hook after 95 pitches (59 strikes). It's the third time in eight starts this season he's failed to last five innings, and the fourth time he's coughed up five or more runs, leaving him with a 5.98 ERA and 1.40 WHIP over 43.2 frames despite a seemingly elite 57:12 K:BB. Luzardo will try to regain his form in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next week in Boston.

Luzardo (3-3) earned the win Sunday against the Marlins, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks in 6.1 innings. He struck out 10. The hard-throwing left-hander worked aggressively Sunday, tallying double-digit strikeouts for the second time this year while throwing 66 of his 102 pitches for strikes. Although the eight hits allowed were his second most of the year, Luzardo also registered an impressive 16 whiffs on the afternoon. He's been inconsistent overall in 2026, as evidenced by a 5.09 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 40.2 frames, but Luzardo is set to carry a stellar 51:9 K:BB into a favorable home matchup versus the Rockies his next time out.
