The Rockies reinstated Veen (knee) from the injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A Albuquerque. A bruised knee prevented Veen from playing during the second half of the Cactus League, but he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games Wednesday and has since gone 1-for-11 with five strikeouts. Although he's now fully healthy, the Rockies will keep him in the minors a bit longer and give him a chance to get back on track at the plate before he receives another look in the bigs.
Veen (knee) went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his first rehab game with Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. Veen served as the designated hitter for the Isotopes in what was his first game action in three weeks as he works his way back from a right knee contusion. The 24-year-old created some buzz early in spring training with his new physique and a couple home runs before the knee issue sidetracked him. Veen is likely to remain at Albuquerque once his rehab assignment is over, but he could push for a role with the Rockies at some point this season.
The Rockies placed Veen (knee) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday. Veen suffered a knee contusion in early March and was sidelined for the closing stretch of spring training, so it's not a major surprise he won't be available to begin the season. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut and batted .118 in 37 plate appearances last year, and he could be headed back to Triple-A Albuquerque once healthy.
