Broderick Washington: Breaking News

Undergoes surgery on Achilles

Head coach John Harbaugh told reporters Monday that Washington successfully underwent Achilles tendon surgery, Jonas Shaffer of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports. Washington landed on injured reserve in late September due to what was initially listed as an ankle injury, but it's an Achilles injury that the 2020 fifth-rounder is rehabbing from. The injury isn't a tear, and while a timetable for his recovery hasn't been shared by the Ravens, Harbaugh relayed that a return for Washington is not "imminent." John Jenkins will continue to work in an elevated role on the defensive line for as long as Washington is sidelined.

Undergoing ankle surgery

Washington is set to have surgery on his ankle, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports. Washington was placed on Baltimore's injured reserve list after Week 3 versus Detroit due to an ankle injury, and now he'll be getting surgery to address the issue. Coach John Harbaugh said Tuesday that he doesn't know how it will impact his recovery timeline. Until he's back in football shape, John Jenkins should be expected to continue to see increased work on the defensive line.

Bound for IR

The Ravens placed Washington (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday. The sixth-year pro from Texas Tech will now be forced to miss the Ravens' next four games after moving to IR. Washington appeared in each of Baltimore's first three games this season, recording four total tackles and one pass defended. With Nnamdi Madubuike (ankle) also shifting to IR, the Ravens are expected to play Aeneas Peebles and Brent Urban as their top defensive ends in a Week 4 matchup against the Chiefs.
