Elliott agreed Thursday to rework his contract with the Eagles, accepting a $1 million pay cut while receiving $5 million guaranteed for 2026, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. The Eagles will save $243,000 in cap space with the maneuver, while the guaranteed money virtually assures that Elliott will remain the team's kicker in 2026 following a rough 2025 campaign. After converting 20 of 27 field-goal attempts for a career-worst 74.1 percent rate during the Eagles' 17 regular-season games, Elliott then had a costly missed extra point in Philadelphia's narrow loss to San Francisco in the wild-card round. The 31-year-old still remains under contract through 2028, but the Eagles would likely have more flexibility to move on from him next offseason if he's unable to bounce back in 2026.
Elliott made field goals from 41 and 33 yards in Sunday's 32-19 Wild Card loss to the 49ers but missed one of his two extra-point attempts. The missed extra point wound up being significant, as the Eagles drove to the San Francisco 21 on their final drive and would have been in range for a game-tying field goal attempt had Elliott made all of his earlier kicks. Elliott missed just one of his 42 extra-point tries in the regular season, but he made just 74 percent of his field-goal attemps (20-for-27), his worst perfomance since 2020.
Elliott made his lone field-goal attempt and both of his point-after tries during the Eagles' 24-17 loss to the Commanders on Sunday. Elliott gave the Eagles a 17-10 lead late in the third quarter after connecting on a 39-yard field goal, and Sunday marked the sixth time in nine games since the Eagles' Week 9 bye that he made one field goal or less. The 2025 regular season was a disappointing one for the veteran kicker, who connected on just 20 of 27 field-goal attempts across 17 regular-season games, and his 74.1 percent success rate was the second lowest of his career. Elliott had some struggles toward the tail end of the 2024 regular season as well, but he ended up making 10 of 11 field-goal attempts across four postseason games, including 4-for-4 against the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. The Eagles will need the very best out of Elliott for their title defense, which begins this Sunday in the NFC wild-card round against the 49ers.
