No need to wait until Thursday for the start of college football. The season officially begins Saturday afternoon with what will be one of the most compelling FCS battles of the season: No. 1 North Dakota State at No. 12 Montana.
Don’t let the fact that these teams are FBS eligible fool you–these two rosters are surging with talent. There’s a reason why Vernon Adams, who played at Eastern Washington a year ago, has already locked down the starting job at Oregon, or why guys like Jimmy Garoppolo (Eastern Illinois) and Jerick McKinnon (Georgia Southern), among many others, are making names for themselves in the NFL. The FCS has a ton of stars.
For the Bison, who have won the last four FCS national titles, it begins with senior quarterback Carson Wentz. Last season, he tallied 3,111 passing yards and 25 touchdowns to go with 642 rushing yards and another six scores. He has NFL talent, evidenced by throws like these:
The Grizzlies, led by new head coach Bob Stitt, counter by returning 23 starters from last year’s team, which advanced to the second round of the FCS playoffs last year. If you like high-quality, entertaining football, this is one you can’t miss.
