It’s oh so obvious this week. All eyes will be on the No. 24 car.

Gordon has the rare opportunity to end a professional career at the very pinnacle of the sport. He has four championships already on his resume, but he hasn’t won one since 2001. To get that elusive No. 5 in what is the last season of his Hall-of-Fame career would be an unbelievable story and fitting swan song.

And as Fox Sports’ Tom Jensen explained, Gordon will have all kinds of help at Homestead-Miami on Sunday:

With his three teammates already eliminated, every man, woman and child at Hendrick Motorsports has but a single thought: Do everything humanly possible to get Gordon his fifth championship. This is the strongest team in NASCAR year in and year out, and the more than 500 folks at Hendrick will summon their collective will and all of the considerable resources at their disposal to get Gordon the title.

Kevin Harvick joining legends like Lee Petty, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt, Gordon and Jimmie Johnson as drivers to win back-to-back championships would also be quite a story, as would be Busch or Truex Jr. winning their first, but nearly every viewer on Sunday will be pulling for Gordon.
