Alexis Sanchez will be on the sidelines for Chile on Thursday when they visit Colombia for a World Cup qualifier. The Arsenal forward suffered a calf injury in training on Monday, and will be evaluated before Chile’s next match during this international break.

It’s a big loss for Chile, who currently sit on the bubble of CONMEBOL qualifying. Sanchez hasn’t been as good with Chile as he has been with Arsenal this season, but his history of injuries are what make this latest ailment a concern.

Even with Sanchez in the lineup, Chile have struggled in their last two attempts at coming together for the international break. They fell to Paraguay 2-1 in September, only to regroup five days later to beat Bolivia. In October they again fell, this time to Ecuador, only to beat Peru five days later.

Colombia would welcome a rusty team to Barranquilla, as they sit just one point above La Roja in the crowded table.
