The MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, is the setting for a WBC World featherweight title fight on Saturday night, as champion Gary Russell Jr. (27-1, 16 KO’s) takes on Oscar Escandon (25-2, 17 KO’s).

It will be the first fight in over a year for Mr. Russell, who last defeated Patrick Hyland via second-round TKO in the first defense of his 126-pound WBC title. Escandon is also a year-plus removed from his most recent bout, a KO win over Robinson Castellanos to set up this title shot.

Russell is regarded as a significant favorite by the oddsmakers, and it will likely take a near-perfect performance from the challenger to score an upset. Still, as Russell looks to answer questions as to just how good he really is, this is an intriguing fight worth tuning in to.
