The St. Louis Cardinals are headed west for a three-city road trip, and they will be joined by a familiar face. Victor Scott II will be joining the team for their series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals outfielder has spent most of the season in Triple-A Memphis after his season got off to a rough start once again.
Scott had hit .194 with an OBP of .276 to start the season, and Nathan Church was taking hold of center field. Scott would be sent to Memphis in June, and with Leonardo Bernal’s call-up, Jimmy Crooks is the odd man out, freeing up a spot for Scott.
The Cardinals will also be helped by adding an outfielder back on the roster, with Everson Pereira sent to the injured list with a contusion on his left hand.
Victor Scott II’s Rocky Tenure
Entering this season, there were a lot of questions surrounding the Cardinals roster. Who would be a part of the future, and who would not? Scott was a part of the group needing to prove it this season. While not his last chance, the West Virginia product is running out of time with the emergence of talent in the Cardinals’ minor league outfield.
Scott improved upon his rookie campaign of 2024 last season; he raised his batting average by 37 points and finished the year with a .305 OBP.
One of the promising stats that Scott produced was his 34 stolen bases. That may be less than ideal for the speedster who stole 94 in one minor league season back in 2023, but it was a number that could continue to improve if only he got on base more often. He struggled to do so, seeing his on-base percentage fall again this season.
The Cardinal outfielder was hoping to continue building upon his skill set, but his production dipped, and a crowded outfield forced him back to Triple-A this season.
St. Louis Cardinals Give Victor Scott II Time To Work Through It
Upon Scott’s arrival in Triple-A Memphis, it did not take long for him to begin producing. The outfielder had four multi-hit games in his first five games back in the minors. He had just six total multi-hit games in his first stint in the big leagues this season.
Scott’s hitless streak never reached more than three games in the minors this season, and his longest hitting streak reached 17 games in the month of August. A strong way to wrap up his time with Memphis before heading back to St. Louis this season. If he can show the adjustment he made and produce at the major league level, Scott might play his way into a position battle in Spring Training of next season.
