On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Rays concluded their series with the Toronto Blue Jays (at home) in Florida.

They won by a score of 3-0 to complete the three-game sweep over Toronto.

Following the Blue Jays, the Rays will now head to Boston for a series with the Red Sox that starts on Thursday night at Fenway Park.

Following the victory, the Rays announced that they had made a trade with the Minnesota Twins.

Rays Communications wrote: “The Tampa Bay Rays have traded RHP Yoendrys Gómez to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations.”

Gómez appeared in nine games for the Rays this season (with a 6.23 ERA).

The 26-year-old had recently been designated for assignment.

Rays Communications wrote (on May 2): “The Tampa Bay Rays have reinstated LHP Garrett Cleavinger (right calf tightness) from the 15-day IL. To make room on the active roster, RHP Yoendrys Gómez has been designated for assignment.”

Gómez’s MLB Career

Gómez started out his career with the New York Yankees, which is the longest stint he has had with one team (two and a half seasons).

In that span, he went 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA in 12 games.

Following the Yankees, Gómez spent time with the Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers (and Rays) over part of four seasons.

Theodore Tollefson of Zone Coverage wrote: “#MNTwins DFA Christian Roa to make room on the 40-man roster for Yoendrys Gómez. He will be activated at a later date, so no active roster move today.”

Over 36 career games, Gómez has gone 3-3 with a 5.11 ERA.

He could be a good (low-risk) addition to the Twins organization for the 2026 season.

The Rays are currently the second-place team in the American League East with a 24-12 record in 36 games.

They are 1.0 games back of the Yankees for first.

Earlier this season, the Rays swept them (in Tampa Bay).

Meanwhile, the Yankees are 25-11 in 36 games.

They are in the middle of a series with the Texas Rangers.
