Former NFL MVP Rich Gannon doesn't think too highly of the Bills defense

The Buffalo Bills are heading into their bye week with a 5-1 record after beating the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. But head coach Joe Brady isn’t happy with how the team is playing.

“I’m not happy with how the team is playing right now,” Brady said on Monday, via Lance Lysowski.

Bills Have Given Up Over 30 or More Points in Four Games This Season

Brady has every right to be mad about how the team is playing because the defense hasn’t started well.

The defense has given up over 30 points in four of the Bills’ first six games and, oddly enough, Buffalo has won every one. Usually in the NFL, giving up over 30 points is a recipe for a loss, but not for the Bills, who have one of the league’s best offenses.

However, there will be a day or a few games when the Bills won’t be able to come back from 30 points.

The Bills won’t survive giving up 30 points in back-to-back playoff weeks because they could get away with it once, but trying to pull off two or three high-scoring playoff wins won’t be sustainable.

Brady and the Bills have a lot to work on during the bye week, and it’s not all on the defense. Even though the offense has been good this season, it still has room for improvement.

The Bills Are Missing DJ Moore

Buffalo’s offense isn’t in the form it wants because the Bills have missed their No. 1 receiver for a handful of games this season.

The Bills traded a 2026 second-round pick to the Chicago Bears for DJ Moore this past offseason, and he was supposed to be the No. 1 wide receiver. Moore has played four games this season, and he left with an injury in two of them.

In Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, Moore left in the first half with a shoulder injury. In Week 4, he also left the game vs. the New England Patriots with a shoulder injury. He missed the Bills’ last two games vs. the Los Angeles Rams and Raiders.

But when Moore is healthy and playing full games, he has done great. In the two full games he played this season, he recorded five receptions for 178 yards in a Week 1 win over the Houston Texans. In Week 3, he caught six passes for 67 yards in a win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Bills have to get Moore back and healthy, and maybe when they do, the offense will look like how it was supposed to when they made the trade for Moore back in March.
