The Buffalo Bills are off to a hot 2-0 start to the season and have a lot of things working for them. Bills quarterback Josh Allen looks like he can win the NFL MVP for a second straight season, running back James Cook has 176 rushing yards and three touchdowns and the defense is starting to come together.
Buffalo is the strongest team in the NFL. CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan ranked the 10 teams that are 2-0, placing the Bills at No. 1.
Josh Allen is the difference maker here, and what puts Buffalo above the rest of the 2-0 teams,” Sullivan wrote Thursday. Right now, he’s the NFL’s best player after beating Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in Week 1 and then handling the Jets quite easily in Week 2. The offense is averaging 35.5 points per game, and the defense showed flashes in that convincing win over New York. Buffalo should run away with the AFC East and could very well end up as the conference’s No. 1 seed.”
The Bills Are Off to a Great Start
The Bills didn’t start their first game strongly against the Baltimore Ravens, falling behind by 15 points at the start of the fourth quarter. However, the Bills staged an impressive comeback, ultimately winning the contest by just one point. That night, the Bills demonstrated to the entire NFL that they are a serious contender, and the AFC is going to run through them this year.
In Week 2, the Buffalo Bills traveled to play the New York Jets, winning the game 30-10. The Bills‘ defense restricted Jets quarterback Justin Fields to just 27 passing yards and allowed only 100 rushing yards on 21 carries.
Even though the Jets aren’t a great team, it was still encouraging to see the Bills perform well. Often, strong teams that experience a significant emotional win tend to play down to their opponents in the following game, but the Bills did not do that.
Buffalo Has The Schedule to Finish No. 1 in The AFC
Buffalo has all the pieces to be the best team in the NFL this season, and they also have the skill to do it.
The Bills will face the 0-2 Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, and they have the opportunity to secure their third win of the season. After playing Miami, Buffalo will take on the New Orleans Saints, who have yet to win a game, followed by matchups against the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers. The Bills could be 7-0 heading into their game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Nov. 2.
Buffalo’s schedule presents an excellent opportunity for the team to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC as the playoffs approach. The most important goal for the Bills is to ensure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, which would require the Ravens and Chiefs to travel to Orchard Park.
There is a different feeling surrounding this Bills season, but they can only change their playoff struggles from years past if they reach their first Super Bowl with Allen.
