The Buffalo Bills head into their bye week with a 5-1 record after beating the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. But even though the team will be off for a week, that doesn’t mean they aren’t improving the roster.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tre’Davious White is signing with the Bills’ practice squad.
“CB Tre’Davious White is signing with the Bills’ practice squad, where he will acclimate before joining their active roster. White turned down several opportunities to return to Buffalo. White started 16 regular-season games and two playoff games last season,” Schefter wrote Monday on X.
“Can confirm the Buffalo Bills are bringing back CB Tre’Davious White via the practice squad, per source Adam Schefter first to report,” The Buffalo News Katherine Fitzgerald wrote on X. “This will be White’s third stint in Buffalo, and has been in the works. He played 16 games last season for the Bills. And won the media award!”
White Is Heading Into His Ninth Season With the Bills
The Bills drafted White in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and spent eight seasons in Buffalo from 2017 to 2023, making two Pro Bowls in 2019 and 2020. He then played for the Los Anges Rams in 2024, then the Baltimore Ravens, before heading back to Buffalo last season.
It always felt like White could return to Buffalo this season, and after the Bills gave up 30-plus points in four of six games, they knew they needed to improve, and adding White should help.
Bills Need to Make Another Addition to the Defense
The Bills are allowing 28.5 points per game, which is unacceptable for a team aiming to win the Super Bowl. The Buffalo offense can only carry the team so far, and the Bills need to make crucial stops in big games to win.
Adding White to the roster is a solid move, but it can’t be the only move the Bills make before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
The Bills need to look for and trade for a veteran cornerback or defensive lineman who can make a difference.
Even though the trade deadline is still three weeks away, a few teams could already be selling, and one of them could be the Indianapolis Colts, who fired their general manager, Chris Ballard, on Monday. The Colts may be looking to trade players, and one potential candidate is defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
Buckner wouldn’t come cheap for the Bills, but he would be a nice fit for the defensive line. He has four sacks and nine tackles for loss this season and could come to Buffalo and enhance the defense’s identity.
